Named "Best Idea of 2008" 2009 Runner-up for the Metropolis magazine's "Next Generation" Added to the Playlist — issue 17.01 (January 2009) Q&A with WattzOn's Saul Griffith Lifehacker tours WattzOn Opening talk to Pop!Tech 2008 I like the tool because not only does it show me what my energy footprint is, but it shows me the decision-points where I can change my behavior permanently to reduce it. - Shawna McKinley, Green Destinations ...the site does give you a good idea of your energy use, and it shows you two valuable things to help you understand your impact. First you can play what-if games, and see what happens, for example, if you take transit more or change your diet to vegan. Second, cute graphics show you how much energy you're using compared to other people on the site and around the world, and also how many barrels of oil, wingspan wind turbines, or acreage solar panels it would take to fuel your life. See the site and get depressed. Then maybe change your footprint. - Rafe Needleman, CNET News I thought the site was quite informative and interesting. The interface is simply organized and nicely designed, for the most part, and it is pretty easy to figure out what to do. - Catherine Colman, Greensearch G.I. Joe engrained that "knowing is half the battle" so that said, WattzOn could help you get halfway to helping to understanding climate change - the rest is up to each of us individually to take action. - Frank Gruber, Somewhat Frank While it is vital that we understand that most all of our choices, from the types of food we buy to the number of hours we spend in front of the television to how fast we drive our cars, affect our carbon footprint. However, in general terms, the easiest way for most of us to begin to grasp how to reduce it and still live a meaningful, comfortable existence lies in our energy footprint. That's why WattzOn.com is such a wonderful website and why it won Business Week Magazine's best idea of 2008. That's a very significant achievement and I add my applause to this important accolade. The website is very easy to use and I encourage you to do so immediately. - Corbett Kroehler, Keyboard Culture Not only is this a great way to determine where you can cut back on your environmental impact, but it also can be an eye opener as a means to show you where you can save money by becoming more energy efficient. - G.E. Miller, 20somethingfinance An extremely well-designed site that is user-friendly, increasingly accurate with its calculations, and an invaluable tool for individuals looking to reduce their energy footprint. - Sincerely Sustainable
